The members of the Southfield Kappa League are excellent young men who make a significant difference in the community and in the lives of those with whom they come in contact. The following information comprise the monthly summaries of our activities and accomplishments throughout the Metro Detroit area.

April 2013
The Southfield Kappa League attended the Northern Province meeting in Grand Rapids and earned the following honors:
• Student of the Year: Austin Little
• Guide Right Member of the Year: Austin Little
• Champions, Kappa League Basketball Tournament
• 1st Place, Scrapbook
• Guide Right Director of the Year: Richard Smart

March 2013
• The Southfield Kappa League continued participation in their Diamond In the Rough Program at Birney K-8
• The program has been extended and offered to, not only Birney K-8 School, but also has offered the program to MacArthur K-8.
• The Southfield Kappa League attended worship service at the Rose of Sharon Church of God In Christ.
• The Southfield Kappa League hosted their Second Annual League of Young Gentlemen Cooks Taste Fest. at the Rose Of Sharon Church of God In Christ. Each Kappa leaguer prepared their own dish and served it to customers who purchased tickets to taste the dishes of Kappa Leaguers.
• The Southfield Kappa League participated in the Westland John Glenn Step Show competition. The Kappa Leaguers came in 3rd place.
• Southfield Kappa Leaguers registered 33 Kappa Leaguers for the Northern Province Council meeting.

February 2013
• Southfield Kappa League branched off their own and started to conduct the Diamond In The Rough College Prep program at Birney K-8 School in Southfield.
• The Southfield Guide Right Program expanded beyond the Kappa League and invited students from the Birney K-8 School to participate in the Diamond In The Rough Program. Twelve new students joined the Kappa Leaguers.
• The Kappa League received part 1 of College Readiness Workshop conducted by Brother Niko Dawson.
• The Kappa League hosted their Black History Month Quiz Bowl at Hope United Methodist Church. Five different Greek teen organizations participated in this highly successful event.
• The Southfield Kappa League supported the Detroit Kappa League in their fundraiser by attending their bowling fundraiser.

January 2013
• Kappa Leaguers co-hosted a College Prep Workshop with Southfield AKA Teens
• Kappa Leaguers participated in the annual MLK Task Force MLK Walk
• Kappa Leaguers had a bonding event at the Zap Zone
• Kappa Leaguers conducted their annual cultural fundraising event at Detroit Repertory Theater where they saw the play Post Cards. This event allowed the Kappa Leaguers to be well rounded by exposing them to a cultural affair.

December 2012
At the December meeting of the Kappa League, the new Kappa Leaguers were presented with their Kappa League Jackets at the first ceremony of its kind. They received the jackets at their regular monthly meeting. It was attended by their parents. The leadership of Kappa League conducted the ceremony and explained to the new Kappa Leaguers that the jacket symbolized much more that just a piece of clothing. Rather, the wearing of the Jacket makes a statement to the world that you are a young man who is a future leader, scholar, and humanitarian.

December has been a busy month for the Kappa League. On Saturday, December 15th, the Kappa League conducted their annual Adopt-A-Family-For-Christmas Party at Hope United Methodist Church. The Kappa Leaguers used their own funds and solicited some funds from others to purchases clothes and other gifts for a family in need.

Also in December, the Southfield Kappa League, participated with the Southfield AKA Teens and sang Christmas carols to the residents of the Manor of Farmington Hills Nursing Home. The Kappa Leaguers sung their hearts out and helped give out Christmas presents to all of the residents. A good time was had by all.

November 2012
November marked a new beginning for the Southfield Kappa League. For years the Southfield Kappa League had been meeting at Hope UMC. On Saturday, November 10th, the Kappa League was welcomed into the new home at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Southfield. Kappa League meetings are now the second Saturday of every month at New Hope MBC at 3:00 p.m.

The Kappa League played an important and integral role in providing Thanksgiving food baskets for 250 needy families during the holiday. On two successive Saturdays, November 3rd and November 10th, the Southfield Kappa League solicited funds from patrons at the Foodland Store on 8 Mile Rd. in Southfield. These funds were used to purchase items to go into the Thanksgiving food baskets. Then, on Saturday, November 17th, the Kappa Leaguers helped put together the 250 food baskets and helped deliver them to the familes that were in need as they arrived.

October 2012
In October, the Kappa Leaguers began participating in the Diamond In The Rough College Preparatory Program. They met at Frederick Douglas High School along with the Detroit Kappa Leaguers.

September 2012
The Southfield Kappa League inducted 21 new Kappa Leaguers into the fold at a ceremony at Hope United Methodist Church. It was well attended by well over 100 people; friends, family, and Brothers were there to bring well wishes. The parents participated in the first parent meeting of the year as well, where they received information about duties and expectations of our Kappa Leaguers. It was an exciting start to a great Kappa League year.

The Southfield Kappa Leaguers also participated in the AKA Youth Financial Literacy workshop on Saturday, September 29th at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. They participated in workshops and received valuable information of how to obtain and maintain a sound financial life. There were approximately 20 Kappa Leaguers in attendance.
